Duo

In 2023, I visited a Christmas circus in Berlin. There was candy floss, tightrope walkers, a clown and ponies. In the second half, a woman and a man enter the stage. The music gets darker, their clothes don't shine like those of the other performers. Something is different. A swinging rope is lowered with a belt hanging from the end. The man hangs the back of his head in the sling and is pulled up by it alone. Then the woman grabs the man's arms. Now they are both hanging in the air. Swirling, pulling, stretching, wedging themselves into each other. Then the woman hangs upside down, she has a kind of belt in her mouth. She floats towards the floor, where the man lies, opens his mouth, bites into the strap and lets the woman pull him up using only the strength of her jaw.

"We need circus. It shows that anything is possible," says artist Laura. Together with her husband Palomo, they give performances all over the world as "Duo Requiem". They are originally from Colombia, where they also run a circus school. Their little daughter Lusilía travels with them.
